in the darkness, I see light
glowing patterns and specks that dance about my subconscious
swirls that coalesce into vision
I find myself beside you on the crest of a forgotten hill
stones scattered about us
the scent of moss and heather upon the air
'teach me' I ask
you answer with silence
staring with those granite eyes into the forest depths
wind makes the trees dance
rain falls and flowers grow
animals seek shelter within the grove
it has always been so
'what should I see' I ask
you only blink in acknowledgment of my words
time passes in silence
slips across existence like a thief of moments
I look and the forest is gone
lifeless grey has replaced the vivid greens
spreading upon the land like a scaly disease
'what is this?' I cry
you turn and stare into my heart
understanding is a pain that bursts in my soul
the guilt of apathy and indifference
of inaction
I have stood inside myself and done nothing
'but what can I do?" I plead
"Silence is for the darkness," you whisper
"Bring voice to the light"
Bring voice to the light.....
my pen screams across the paper
cries for the trees, for the land, for our lives...
and then it is that I know
beauty is as lost when it is no longer seen
as are words that are never spoken
'Bring voice to the light' you say...
Give voice to the world!
wind makes the trees dance
rain falls and flowers grow
animals seek shelter within the grove
may it always be so....
