How dare we offer that which we do not own
In the name of deception against our enemies,
Victimize those we claim to protect,
Use their lives to obtain what we please.
How dare we call home, a world we do not know,
It’s beauty unseen, greed covering our eyes,
Our own image swollen within our estimation,
It’s insignificance hidden even from ourselves with the lies.
How dare we ignore the seasons of this life,
The timely procession of summer and winter, of life and death,
Turning away from the lessons of falling leaves and budding branch,
We attempt to deny our own end with each drawn breath
How dare we deceive even ourselves as to what we
are,
Deny our animal souls and wrap them in steel.
Is it no wonder that we yearn to escape?
To run away from what we have convinced ourselves is real?
Behind our civilized facades,
We are, with our own lives, still at odds.
